A blog replaced

At this point in my blog, at the beginning of August, I reposted an email calling for support of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.  Since then, these sham elections took place, the military strengthened their control of the country, and just a short time ago Ms. Kyi was released from her house arrest.  Has much changed because of that?  Only time will tell.  I still receive the emails from the U.S. Campaign for Burma organization because they know that their work is not done.

I created the above picture right after the disaster of Cyclone Nargis in 2008.  Although we do not really know the exact numbers, about 100,000 people died in the aftermath of the storm and about 1,000,000 were left homeless.  The government refused assistance from Red Cross and Red Crescent.  Many lives might have been saved if the horribly cruel people that dominate Burma cared enough to let the Burmese people get assistance they did not have the ability to provide.  Many people, perhaps several million, have been murdered by this bizarre regime.  There are still a few thousand political prisoners there who have been treated horribly.

I know there have been incredibly atrocious human rights tragedies over the years in different places but this place is one of the worst.  For a very long time this one has escaped my attention, in part because the Burmese regime has been focusing their efforts to suppress the flow of information.  That is part of the reason they have been able to perpetuate these crimes against humanity.

Please continue to do what you can to assist those that suffer in Burma.  Whatever faith or path you ascribe to must include assisting those who need your help the most.
